According to the Customs officials, based on the passenger profile, the AIW during the check found that the passenger had concealed the jewellery in his hand bag, while the raw gold was
concealed in the check-in-baggage.
The officials added that the Customs seized 374 grammes of gold worth Rs 10 lakh from a passenger who had arrived from Doha via Dubai.
In another incident, the AIW seized 262 grammes of gold worth Rs 7 lakh from a native of Bhatkal.
The Customs officials informed that the passenger who had arrived at Dabolim from Dubai by Air Arabia flight had concealed the gold inside the handle of a non-stick cookware.
The Customs officials added that in the past seven days, this is the third seizure of gold at Dabolim airport by the AIW during routine check.
“Last week, the AIW had seized 161 grammes of gold from a native of Kerala who had concealed the gold in
the form of powder in milk powder packet,” added the official.
“All the seized gold is liable for confiscation under the provision of Sections 110 and 111 of the Customs Act 1962 and all the passengers were allowed to go after completing the formalities as the value of the gold was less then Rs 20 lakh and further investigation is in progress,” said the official.
